Ian Garry wants women to rule the world, right after he’s done converting everyone to a vegan diet.
Considering the demographics of the UFC fan base, those opinions drew widespread backlash on social media; not just from fans, but also from his fellow fighters. That said, Garry hasn’t seen a single comment or tagged photo because he unplugged himself ahead of his UFC 330 title fight.
“What do I think about online backlash? I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Garry told Betvictor Casino (via
MMA Junkie). “I have absolutely no idea about any backlash or any criticism because I haven’t been online. I have a world title fight against the best fighter on the planet right now, and that is all I have been focused on. I don’t use social media anymore. I use it to promote the fight.”
And a few other things.
“I use it to promote interviews that I’ve done and podcasts that I’ve done,” Garry continued. “I do not scroll and look at comments. I do not scroll and look at tagged photos. I do not scroll and look at anything. Me and my team sit down, we post, we talk about the caption, and that’s it. I don’t look at anything else. I don’t need to. I don’t need to see anyone else’s opinion of me or what I choose to do in my life.”
Ignoring the criticism means he’s also missing the praise.
The 28-year-old Garry (17-1) will attempt to capture the welterweight crown when he collides with reigning 170-pound champion Islam Makhachev in the upcoming UFC 330 five-round main event on Paramount+, scheduled for Sat., Aug. 15, 2026 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
