Mason Rook isn’t new to this, he’s true to this.
The artist formerly known as Will Kroos impressed the one and only John Cena before he ever signed a contract with WWE, and the company hasn’t been shy about making sure we know about it. There’s a reason for that — the big fella is pretty damn good at what he does.
The 29-year-old from across the pond came in with a fun catchphrase and plenty of athletic ability despite his size. That’s the kind of thing that will get you over fast in a promotion like
WWE. But he was still going to have to square up with stars who can talk him into the ground, and we needed to see if he could survive that kind of encounter.
Did he ever.
Grayson Waller came back down to NXT and instantly won the championship, all while calling out the entirety of the men’s division. Rook won the right to be his first challenger, and this week’s episode of NXT TV was their first face-to-face encounter with each getting the chance to speak.
Waller, of course, called him fat, wore a shirt mocking how fat he is, and didn’t want to give up the microphone for fear Mason would mistake it for a drumstick and try to eat it. You know, because he’s fat.
Yeah.
Rook took it on the chin before taking the microphone and the opportunity that came with it. Boy did he run away with it from there:
Rook called out Waller for being back in NXT not to showcase how bad the men’s division is but rather because he wasn’t good enough to make it on the main roster. But he doesn’t need to play Waller’s game because he knows Waller can’t play his. He’s here because he’s the best big man in the game.
That’s when he took it home by bringing it back to what this is all supposed to be about — a guy beating another guy up to win a title:
“As undeniably great as you are at running your mouth, when my hands are around your neck and I’m crushing the air out of your lungs you’re going to realize real fast that you are in way over your head. And unfortunately for you, being great on the stick is not going to save your sorry ass this time.”
