Frenkie de Jong has been ruled out of action by Barcelona after sustaining a knock on international duty with the Netherlands.
The midfielder will miss Sunday’s clash against Valencia but is aiming to return against Newcastle in the Champions League.
Journalist Alex Pintanel reports “Frenkie de Jong is working with the goal of being at 100% for the Newcastle match.”
The trip to St James’ Park on September
18th is Barcelona’s opening match of the Champions League, and Hansi Flick’s side will be aiming to get off to a good start against the Premier League side.
De Jong’s return would be good news for the game, particularly with Barcelona also without Gavi and Alejandro Balde currently due to injury.
In the meantime, Marc Casado is expected to come in for De Jong and should start Sunday’s match with Valencia at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
