Toni Fernandez is widely known to be one of the most exciting talents coming through Barcelona right now and is expected to be one of the next youngsters to break into the first team.
The winger was part of Barcelona’s pre-season tour of Asia and went on to make his La Liga debut for Barcelona back in October against Girona.
“No doubt the level is much higher, and the pace is faster, but honestly, I see myself ready to help the team,” he said afterwards.
Yet that hasn’t happened and the 17-year-old
hasn’t featured for the first team since.
However, a new report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on the situation and says that Flick wanted Fernandez back at Barcelona Atletic “as he needed playing time and match fitness.”
Fernandez has gone on to play 15 times for Barca Atletic this season, scoring three times and bagging two assists for Belletti’s side.
Yet Flick hasn’t forgotten about Fernandez completely. He called up the teenager for the game against Real Oviedo at the end of January, although the winger stayed on the bench for the 3-0 win.
First-team opportunities may be even harder to come by in the coming months, as Barcelona head into the business end of the season still in contention on all three fronts, but Flick is said to be still keeping a close eye on Fernandez.
