The Commanders could be getting a significant boost in Week 4.
Dan Quinn announced on Monday that Jayden Daniels, Frankie Luvu, and Chig Okonkwo will all travel to London and participate in practice this week ahead of Washington’s matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Having all three back would give offensive coordinator David Blough and defensive coordinator Daronte Jones more options in their game planning, but the impact could be especially significant at two position groups that have been hit
hard by injuries.
The question is: if only one of them can return this week, who matters most?
The tight end position has yet to provide much production through three games, looking remarkably similar to the group Washington had in 2025. Okonkwo’s debut against the Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t particularly productive, but his skill set gives the offense something the current group has struggled to consistently provide: explosiveness, versatility, quick targets and yards after the catch.
Through three games, John Bates, Colson Yankoff and Ben Sinnott have combined for just six receptions while averaging seven yards per reception. Adding Okonkwo back into the rotation could give Blough another weapon to move around the formation and create opportunities in the middle of the field.
Luvu’s potential return could be just as important for Jones. With Leo Chenal out for the season and Jordan Magee already on injured reserve, Washington’s linebacker depth has become a legitimate concern. Behind Sonny Styles are Kain Medrano and Ale Kaho, neither of whom has significant NFL experience.
At the same time, Medrano’s defensive debut provided a glimpse of what this defense could look like with younger players taking on larger roles. A rotation featuring Styles, Luvu and Medrano could give Jones another combination of athleticism and versatility as the defense continues to establish its identity.
Then there’s Daniels.
His availability is obviously the biggest question surrounding Washington heading into Week 4. Is this a legitimate ramp up toward playing against Indianapolis, or is the goal to get Daniels closer to 100% before the Week 5 matchup with the New York Giants?
There are still plenty of questions surrounding his recovery and how the Commanders will manage his return. For Washington, the balance will be finding a way to get its franchise quarterback back on the field while limiting the risk of further injury.
On the latest Trap or Dive Podcast, we break down all three potential returns, including a debate over which player Washington would rather have back this week if only Luvu or Okonkwo were available. We also look at what Washington’s win over Seattle means for the bigger picture.
After an uneven start to the season, the Commanders are showing signs of an identity on both sides of the ball. We’re also taking a closer look at whether that development can carry Washington forward — and what these potential Week 4 returns could mean for the team.
