San Diego Wave announced the signing of 18-year-old Colombian goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo to a three-year contract through the 2028 season.
“I’m so excited to be here and to take this next step with San Diego
Wave FC. From my first conversations with the club, the ambition, professionalism, and expectations to compete at the highest level were clear,” said Agudelo in a statement. “This feels like the right environment to continue growing while competing for championships. I’m proud to be here and ready to give everything for this team.”
Agudelo starter her professional career at just 15 years old, with Cali in 2023, and won a back-to-back league championships in 2024 and 2025.
On the international stage Agudelo has appeared in multiple tournaments for the youth national team including a silver medal winning campaign at the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She earned two caps with the senior national team thus far and was a member of Colombia’s roster in the 2025 Copa América Femenina. Agudelo did not make an appearance, but her new Wave teammate, Daniela Arias, was a crucial part of Colombia’s defensive line at center back.
“Luisa (Agudelo) is an exceptional young goalkeeper who has already proven she can perform in championship environments,” said Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton. “At just 18, she brings poise, technical quality, and international experience well beyond her years. We believe her profile and mentality align strongly with how we want to build this roster, both now and for the future.”
The young goalkeeper will join an interesting goalkeeper room that may not have a clear number one option yet, though Agudelo has the longest contract of the room.
The room includes veteran NWSL goalkeeper, DiDi Haračić, who returns with a new one-year contract, and 23-year-old goalkeeper Leah Freeman formerly the third option with Bay FC to a one-year contract through the 2026 season.
The Wave mutually agreed to part ways with their captain and starting goalkeeper, Kailen Sheridan, in the offseason after she had been one of the faces of the club since its inception in 2022.
