The Wisconsin Badgers are taking on the No. 21 Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday, looking to pick up a big win to send their seniors off in the final home game of the season.
Wisconsin has gone 3-7 this
season, starting the year 2-0 before a six-game losing streak, which was snapped with a major 13-10 win over the Washington Huskies at Camp Randall Stadium two weeks ago. Last weekend, they fell 31-7 to the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers, getting their seventh loss of the year.
They face an Illinois team that has gone 7-3 with a big win over the USC Trojans, who are now a top-20 team in the nation. Their three losses have come to the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, the No. 2 Hoosiers, and the Huskies.
Illinois is coming off back-to-back wins over Maryland and Rutgers, beating both teams by at least 18 points.
Heading into the game, the Fighting Illini are seen as 7.5-point favorites, with the over/under at 41.5 points.
Can the Badgers pull off the upset?
Pick
The Badgers have a quality defense that found pressure on the quarterback early and defended the run well.
Illinois hasn’t particularly ran the ball well, and but their passing attack has been good behind quarterback Tommy Altmeyer, who has thrown 21 touchdowns to only five interceptions.
Their offense puts up points. Illinois has scored at least 24 points in every game but two, which were against the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country.
In the three games they’ve lost, defense has been an issue. But, Wisconsin’s offense is a real issue. They haven’t scored more than 14 points since Week 2. They’ll continue to open up the passing game for Carter Smith, but his rushing threat won’t be as active with the team’s depth concerns at quarterback.
Ultimately, I think Illinois reaches the 24-point mark and we just haven’t seen Wisconsin get to 14 recently.
Prediction: Illinois -7.5
