Royals catcher Salvador Perez hit the 317th home run of his career in the seventh inning, tying George Brett for the franchise record. Perez crushed a sinker from San Francisco’s Landen Roupp, hitting a baseball that had an exit velocity of 108.7 mph off his bat. The ball traveled
an estimated 437 feet, where it splashed down in the fountains in right-center field. A short while later, the Royals’ TV cameras showed a fan trying to reach into the water to retrieve the ball — but that’s a no-no, as broadcaster Jake Eisenberg noted.

“I love that guy,” manager Matt Quatraro said with tears in his eyes. “What he does, the way he goes about it, the passion he plays the game — it’s unrivaled. The guy’s a Hall of Famer, and you’re getting to witness it.”
“I think you’re just so happy that he did it at home in front of the people that have been supportive his whole career,” said center fielder Lane Thomas, who provided the go-ahead knock later in the seventh.
Now to unfortunate news, prior to the game, Bobby Witt Jr. was placed on the IL.
Bobby Witt Jr. is in the middle of his fifth Major League season and had never been on the injured list until Wednesday, when the Royals placed their star shortstop on the 10-day IL with back tightness that hasn’t improved enough for Witt to envision a return over the next few days.
“It’s just kind of one of those things where the type of way I play, I couldn’t be myself out there,” Witt said. “And I couldn’t even be 50% of myself.”
Jac Caglianone left the game Tuesday night and did not play yesterday.
A diving catch attempt in right field seemed to shake Jac Caglianone up a bit in the fifth inning of the Royals’ 3-2 win over the Giants on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, but even as Caglianone got up with a grimace, he waved off his teammates and the Royals’ staff to stay in the game.
An inning later, though, Caglianone was replaced in right field and out of the game with right shoulder soreness. On Wednesday, he was out of the lineup for the Royals’ series finale against the Giants at Kauffman Stadium.
