A report from Jordan Schultz on Wednesday indicated that the Las Vegas Raiders are looking for an “offensive minded” coach to pair with likely first overall selection Fernando Mendoza. Additionally, Schultz went
on to mention the top three candidates seem to be Klint Kubiak, Davis Webb, and Jesse Minter. While Minter is a defensive minded coach, he can likely bring in a strong offensive minded coach from his connections with former Ravens and Michigan staffers. Additionally, the consensus around the NFL right now is the Raiders are more than willing to wait till after this weekend’s conference championships and if needed, the Super Bowl to hire a head coach. Lets take a look at the Raiders three reported finalists, their potential coaching staffs, and much more:
Experience
Kubiak is the son of Gary Kubiak, and his younger brother Klay Kubiak is also the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. Klint, just 38 years old, has been a top name for a few years within circles as an offensive coordinator. He started his career with Texas A&M as a quality control coach in 2010-2012. Kubiak then went to work with the Vikings under in 2013-2014 as a quality control coach before then moving to Kansas in 2015. Kubiak then went back to the Broncos for 2016-2018 as an offensive assistant before pivoting to the Vikings in 2019. Kubiak spent 2019 and 2020 as the Vikings QB coach before taking the reigns as an OC in 2021. Kubiak then went onto the Broncos in 2022 as their QB coach, and the 49ers pass game coordinator in 2023. He then joined the Saints in 2024 as their offensive coordinator and Seahawks offensive coordinator in 2025.
Minnesota Vikings (2019-2021)
As a QB coach, Kubiak has seen success with 2019 Kirk Cousins completing 69% of his attempts for 3603 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions while being named to the Pro Bowl. Additionally, Cousins finished with a 4.4% big time throw rate to just a 2.4% turnover worthy play rate as well. In 2020, Cousins completed 67% of his attempts for 4221 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while maintaining the same number of big time throws and turnover worthy plays. In his first season as an offensive coordinator in 2021, Kubiak saw his offense rank 12th in total yards, and 14th in points. Additionally, Kubiak’s offense ranked 11th in passing yards, 9th in touchdowns, and tossed the least number of interceptions in the NFL as well. Their run game finished 17th in yards and 28th in touchdowns. His offense ranked 14th in EPA, 15th in DVOA, and quarterback Kirk Cousins went on to throw 4221 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just 7 interceptions with the touchdowns being a career high and the 2nd most yards of his career.
Denver Broncos (2022)
In his lone season with the Broncos, the team saw veteran quarterback Russell Wilson log a 60% completion rate, 3524 yards, and 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions with backup Brett Rypien having a 60% completion rate, 483 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Wilson struggled in his time post Seattle regardless and Kubiak’s overall influence is questionable as well in terms of success or failures. The Broncos delegated Kubiak as the play-caller in late November after Nathaniel Hackett’s incredible struggles as head coach. The Broncos finished the season 14th in total offense from the time Kubiak took over to the final game of the season.
San Francisco 49ers (2023)
Kubiak served as the teams pass game coordinator, and the 49ers ranked top 8 in majority of passing aspects though Kyle Shanahan ran majority of the offensive systems. Kubiak was the 49ers unofficial offensive coordinator as well with the 49ers not naming an OC following the parting of former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniels.
New Orleans Saints (2024)
The Saints named Kubiak their offensive coordinator to start the 2024 season, and Kubiak did have original interest by the Raiders and Antonio Pierce before naming Luke Getsy OC. The Saints finished the season ranked 21st in yards and 24th in points. They also ranked 22nd in EPA, 20th in DVOA, and struggled to find much in both the rushing and passing aspects. The Saints finished 14th in rushing yards, 14th in touchdowns and 23rd in passing yards and 20th in touchdowns. The Saints were largely held back by inconsistent quarterback play, offensive injuries, and others with the team seeing Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener all start games at signal caller for them. Kubiak was fired after the 2024 season along with the rest of the New Orleans Saints staff.
Seattle Seahawks (2025)
The Seahawks and head coach Mike MacDonald tabbed Kubiak their OC and it turned out as an incredible hire with Seattle ranking 8th in yards, and 3rd in points. Additionally, they ranked 3rd in DVOA, 2nd in EPA and saw their passing offense rank 8th in total yards, 16th in touchdowns, and just 29th in attempts. The rushing offense ranked 3rd in attempts, 10th in yards, and ninth in points. Seattle did struggle with turnovers ranking 31st overall a trend uncommon for Kubiak’s offenses (1st in 2021 and 9th in 2024). Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 67% of his attempts for 4048 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions largely speared by Jaxon Smith-Njigba who led the NFL with 1793 yards and added 119 receptions and 10 touchdowns. Second year tight end AJ Barner posted 52 receptions, 519 yards, and 6 touchdowns. The rushing offense saw both Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet post 700+ yards with Charbonnet also posting 12 touchdowns.
Philosphy:
Kubiak has been reliant upon play action heavily in his career with a focus on RPO’s as well with his offensive units posting an average 41% play action or RPO rate in his three seasons. Additionally, Kubiak has focused on zone blocking assignments which slightly fit the Raiders offensive units involving Jackson Powers-Johnson, Kolton Miller, and DJ Glaze though rookies Caleb Rogers and Charles Grant could see time adapting to a more zone over power system. Additionally, Kubiak is a primary run focused coordinator having his units rank 8th, 11th, and 14th in overall rushing efficiency and designed run rates. He’s highly efficient on third and fourth down with his units ranking 2nd and 4th in terms of average yards on 3rd and 4th down along with finishing an average of 6th for overall 3rd down conversion rate. He does a good job mixing run and pass with his units only running on first down an average of 55% of the time. The Seahawks rank 29th in 11 personnel usage (41.3%), 11th in 12 personnel (27.4%), and 9th in 13 personnel (5.8%).
Potential Assistant Coaches
The clear cut candidate for Kubiak to bring with him as head coach is 49ers OC Klay Kubiak and the 37 year old has seen a quick rise in the 49ers system after serving as the Strake Jesuit College Prep OC and HC from 2013-2020. Klay has since spent time as a quality control coach (2021), QB coach (2022-2023), passing specialist (2024), and now OC in 2025. His one year as coordinator has seen the 49ers rank 7th in yards and 10th in points fueled behind a strong passing game with both Mac Jones and Brock Purdy seeing time as the starter and both playing at a strong level.
Additionally, Seahawks OL coach John Benton followed Kubiak to Seattle and has spent time with the Jets (2021-2022), Saints, and 49ers (2017-2020). Benton has also served as the team’s run game coordinator in all but one season since 2017 and has not seen a unit’s offensive rushing unit rank lower than 8th in the NFL. QB coach Andrew Janocko could follow Kubiak as well after following him to Seattle in 2025 and tight ends coach Mack Brown did the same. Additionally Kubiak would be likely to bring some former Seahawks defensive coaches with him to Las Vegas which could include DB coach Karl Scott, who was a potential DC candidate for the Raiders under Pete Carroll and is viewed as one of the best DB coaches in the NFL. Seahawks ILB coach Kirk Olivadotti is also a potential DC candidate after serving over a decade as a LB coach in the NFL with the Packers, Seahawks, and Commanders.
Players to Watch, Connections:
Seahawks receiver Rashid Shaheed is the most notable name to watch if Kubiak is hired, as the Seahawks traded for Shaheed at the trade deadline and Shaheed also spent time with Kubiak in New Orleans during 2024. Shaheed has sub 4.3 speed and in 024 logged 20 receptions, 349 yards, and 3 touchdowns in just 6 games before an ACL tear knocked him out. In 18 games this season Shaheed posted 59 receptions, 687 yards, and 2 TD including 188 yards in 9 games with the Seahawks. Shaheed is also a notable Pro Bowl returner with a career 77 punt returns, 1014 yards, and 3 touchdowns along with 53 kick returns, 1322 yards, and a touchdown. Additionally, notable Seahawks free agents Tariq Woolen, Coby Bryant, and Boye Mafe could make their way to Las Vegas as well. Runningback Kenneth Walker wouldn’t make sense for Las Vegas though the Raiders would transition to a runningback by committee approach.
