Barcelona saw their 11-game winning streak snapped on Sunday as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad in La Liga.
A tough night in the Basque Country saw Barcelona have three goals ruled out, a penalty
awarded and then scrubbed off and the team hit the woodwork on four different occasions.
and Hansi Flick both hit out at referee Gil Manzano after the match, while the decision to rule out Lamine Yamal’s goal for offside has also come in for plenty of scrutiny.Yet after that game it seems that Flick was not too downhearted. According to Cadena SER, he was quick to get his players together in the dressing room for a pep talk.
“Playing like this, you will win most matches,” is the big message he delivered to his players in the wake of the defeat.
The Barcelona boss had a similar view when he spoke to the media afterwards: “The result doesn’t reflect our performance. We created many chances. In the end, there are days when you put in a lot of energy but you’re unlucky. I appreciate what we saw. It’s true we could have defended better on a couple of occasions, but I like what I saw because we played well.”
Barcelona’s last defeat came against Chelsea and saw Flick promise fans they’d see a better Barca from then on. He wasn’t wrong either, as the Catalans then went on an 11-game winning streak. Flick will be hoping for something similar again after Sunday night’s disappointment.
