UEFA has issued a statement on plans to play domestic games abroad amid talk of Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Villarreal being moved to Miami.
The controversial plan to take the game to the United States has been met with plenty of criticism already, and a new update has now been issued by Europe’s governing body.
A statement from UEFA said: “The committee acknowledged [overseas fixtures] as an important and growing issue but expressed the desire to ensure that it has the views of all stakeholders
before coming to a final decision.
“There are many issues to resolve and as the European governing body, Uefa has a responsibility to take all such factors into account. As a result, no decision was taken today but Uefa will undertake a round of consultation with all stakeholders in European football – including fans.”
The consulation process is expected to start shortly, while the next meeting of Uefa’s executive committee is due to take place on 3 December.
Barcelona’s clash with Villarreal is scheduled for 21st December 2025.
