Harry Kane has been rewarded for a remarkable individual season by winning the European Golden Shoe, but the Bayern Munich striker was quick to make it clear that the award was never achieved alone.
“I want to thank FC Bayern, the staff, the coaches, and my teammates – without them, I wouldn’t be standing here. A lot of work goes into an award like this. I try to help the team in the best way possible. Last season was outstanding, and I’m very proud. It was the best season of my career so far. I feel
very comfortable at FC Bayern and with the team. We’re always aiming for big things, and we want to do that again this season,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane’s individual numbers were extraordinary, but his comments underline how much he values the collective success behind those goals. His comfort at Bayern Munich has also become increasingly evident, with the striker entering another season as the focal point of Vincent Kompany’s attack.
The Bundesliga’s style also suits Kane’s mentality.
“The (Bundesliga) is very attacking; even when you’re leading 2-0 or 3-0, the game can still be turned around. It’s a league of strikers. Many teams want to go for the win, score goals, and that suits us very well; we also want to do that and win,” Kane remarked.
Kane is not simply a penalty-box striker, however. His ability to drop into midfield, create chances, and contribute to Bayern Munich’s buildup has become a major part of his game.
“I feel very comfortable in all positions; the older you get, the more parts of the pitch you learn. Last year this understanding was even better; the coach allows me to drop back to build up play, but then to push forward again. The coach expects a lot from everyone, with and without the ball; the team is very special, and I love winning a tackle just as much as scoring a goal,” said Kane.
That willingness to contribute in every phase is part of what makes Kane so valuable to Bayern Munich. And despite winning one of football’s most prestigious individual awards, he is not satisfied.
“My goal is always to improve. Obviously last year was amazing, but I still know there are bits to my game I can still improve. I’m grateful to receive this award, but my mind is already on Saturday and the Supercup,” Kane stated.
