Matthias Jaissle’s arrival at Newcastle United has coincided with a frantic search for midfield reinforcements, as the Magpies work to reshape their squad following a summer full of major departures.
With Bruno Guimaraes set to join Arsenal, more and more reports are suggesting Newcastle have already identified a Germany international as a possible solution for the Magpies’ midfield, with the latest from the Daily Mail’s Simon Jones reporting there’s already been an early approach and contact with three
midfielders, if not more.
“Newcastle are working to find a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is set to have a medical at Arsenal after a £75m deal was agreed,” Jones reported. “They have asked about Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, Angelo Stiller at Stuttgart and Luka Sucic at Real Sociedad, among others, as they try to find a solution swiftly with new boss Matthias Jaissle being announced tonight.“
Regarding Stiller, the 24-year-old enjoyed another impressive season in the Bundesliga last season. It continued his rise with Germany becoming part of the nation’s World Cup squad, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s most technically gifted and promising young midfielders.
Stiller’s contractual situation, however, could complicate negotiations for the Magpies. Although he reportedly has a £35 million release clause, Stuttgart are said to have the option of cancelling it by paying the player £1.5 million, allowing the Bundesliga club to negotiate a significantly higher transfer fee, believed to be around £43 million in Stuttgart’s valuation of the player.
While no formal offer has yet been reported, Newcastle’s enquiry represents another sign that the club is actively exploring the German market, along with reports from other outlets linking the Magpies with Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha.
