A Better Ground Attack
The Seahawks’ defense was able to keep the 49ers in check in terms of running the ball. Seattle ranked ninth in defensive EPA against the run, and Christian McCaffrey averaged less than four yards per carry. The Steelers don’t need 200 yards on the ground to be successful, but they do need more than 53 yards on 2.7 yards per carry to give Aaron Rodgers and the passing game some help.
Better Protection
The Seahawks have a good defensive line, highlighted by Leonard Williams and Demarcus Lawrence. While it’s admirable
that Broderick Jones owns his mistakes, he needs to start fixing them by playing better. Aaron Rodgers being under constant pressure will play into the hands of the Seahawks, who will look to win a low-scoring game.
Make Sam Darnold Beat You
The Seahawks’ passing attack was anemic against the 49ers. Darnold threw for just 150 yards, and it was clear that Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the only threat through the air. The Ohio State product had nine catches for 124 yards – the next leading receiver was Cooper Kupp with two catches for 15 yards. Have Jalen Ramsey trail JSN, load the box to stop the run, and force Darnold to be the reason Seattle wins.
