Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has been looking ahead to El Clasico after Tuesday’s 6-1 win over Olympiacos in the Champions League.
The Catalans head to the Santiago Bernabeu next and Cubarsi has been
asked how Barcelona can take away three points from their bitter rivals.
“Continue with our philosophy. Last year went well. Now the teams have evolved. We need to tweak a few things that will allow us to improve,” he said, via AS.
“We’re just focused on playing a good game and getting the three points. We want to be top of the table because that would give us an advantage. The fans like the five-goal, but we’re relaxed. We want to score a lot of goals and keep a clean sheet.”
Cubarsi will come up against an in-form Kylian Mbappe in the Spanish capital and is confident he can stop the France international from playing a starring role.
“Everyone knows who Mbappé is. We have to keep an eye on him and all the Real Madrid players, who are world-class,” he added.
“By tweaking a few things, we should do well. We’ll have to stop him in the best way possible, but especially focus on ourselves.
The defender was also asked if Barca will have to make changes to their backline, with the offside trap not working as well as last season, and said his team will have to be switched on from start to finish.
“Last year we played a great game. This year, like every year, teams have tweaked things. So have we. We have to be aware of their runs, because that’s what can hurt us,” he said.
“It’s going to be magnificent, and I’m sure the fans will enjoy it. The key is to sacrifice ourselves, to be great teammates.”
