According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiasSanMia_GER), there is a pecking order at center-back for Bayern Munich should the club need to replace Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae or both
should the players leave the club next summer.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi is ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck because of Guéhi’s status as a free agent:
Any potential transfer plans regarding Nico Schlotterbeck were not presented to the supervisory board. As long as no decision has been made regarding Upamecano, there will also be no concrete transfer measures for signing Schlotterbeck.
The case is different with Marc Guéhi; he will be a free agent in the summer. Therefore, Bayern must already deal with him now. Freund is said to have already inquired more specifically about Guéhi with his compatriot and Crystal manager Oliver Glasner.
There are also rumors that BVB might be reluctant to part with Schlotterbeck for next season, even at the risk of losing him as a free agent in 2027.
BFW Commentary
The obvious takeaway from this news is that if Bayern Munich needs to make a move for this summer to replace Upamecano or Kim, Guéhi will get the nod because he will cost nothing. Should Upamecano re-up and Kim leaves in 2027, then Schlotterbeck could be the move on a free transfer.
If Bayern Munich — somehow — needs two center-backs this summer, it appears to at least have the idea of how to approach filling the void.
Welcome to Bavarian Podcast Works — Edges and Underdogs, a BuLi Action Show!
This is not your run-of-the-mill gambling show as we are putting more focus on the ins-and-outs of the actual match day’s showdowns, rather than an odds-driven format (but yes, you will get the odds as well). This podcast is for people who watch the Bundesliga intently and who want to dive into some of the big games for each match day. Through that, we will also provide some information that could help those seeking to make a wager or two.
Each week, we will highlight three matches to talk through and break down who has the edge, who might be hurting, who is susceptible to being upset, who’s getting hot, and more! This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Edges and Underdogs, a BuLi Action Show:
- Catching up on how we did last week.
- A look at this weekend’s match-ups — including win probability, odds, injury updates, trends, AI predictions, and our predictions as well.
The bottom line…it’s time for some action.
