Rhea “Bloody” Ripley has revealed the nasty—and, yes, bloody—injury that caused her recent visit to the emergency room.
Ripley’s long-time partner, Buddy Matthews, tipped off fans to the injury on Wednesday by posting a photo on his Instagram account of The Eradicator sitting in a hospital bed and flipping off the camera. He captioned the image with only one word: “Wasted.”
Later, the WWE star showed exactly why she needed to be in the hospital.
“What an eventful day,” Ripley wrote on a now-disappeared
slide on her Instagram Stories. “If you have a weak stomach or don’t like injuries, please don’t look at my next story.”
The next image in her Stories showed a picture of a large gash visible on her leg. A smaller image in the corner of the post shows the cut stitched up.
“Nice little detour to the emergency room for me today,” Ripley wrote as the caption for the pic of the injury.
She did not elaborate on how she received the injury, but it does not appear severe enough to jeopardize her match against WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill at WrestleMania 42.
The rivalry between Rhea and Jade has been heated leading up to WWE’s biggest PLE of the year. The champ has enlisted the help of Michin and B-Fab in the feud, resulting in Rhea bringing in her former tag-team partner IYO SKY as back-up.
The feud between Rhea and Jade began immediately after Ripley earned the title shot at WrestleMania by winning the women’s Elimination Chamber match. Jade took to insulting Rhea online, accusing the Australian star of benefiting from favoritism from WWE Creative, leading Ripley to call out Cargill for her lack of title defenses.
The contentious social media interactions soon became more intense and drew in other members of the women’s roster. Veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio at the time that the war-of-words was planned by WWE Creative but was tapping into real issues between the two wrestlers.
Soon enough, they will have the chance to inflict injuries on each another in the ring in Las Vegas.
