The Phoenix Suns have gotten back on track after losing three of their first five games of the month. The team has won four of their last five including three straight, putting them two games out of the fourth seed and they have a two-game lead ahead of the eighth seeded Golden State Warriors. The Suns beat the Lakers easily and pulled out tough victories against the New Orleans Pelicans over the weekend.
Here are the main questions for Week 10 that we want your thoughts on:
Building a team not dependent on Devin Booker to be great every night.
Booker was excellent in
the Suns’ first two games of the week. Against the Lakers, he had his first double-double in over a month and a 12-point fourth quarter to lead Phoenix to victory on Friday against the Pelicans. On Saturday against New Orleans, Booker was not excellent. He shot 6/18 from the field, 5/8 from the free throw line and had five personal fouls, but it didn’t matter. The Suns had seven different players score in double figures, including three off the bench to finish the week undefeated.
How has Phoenix gone from a team that was once so dependent on their star player, to one that can surviving when he struggles or not in the lineup?
Comparing this year’s team to last year’s.
Through 31 games last year, the Phoenix Suns were 15-16, including losing 15 of their last 22 games. Through 31 games this season, the team is 18-13. The team already has had half the amount of wins they did the entirety of last season. What do you think is the biggest reason that they’ve improved so much from a season ago, even with losing Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in the offseason?
The Suns made many acquisitions to their roster and coaching staff last offseason, who do you think has been the most impactful addition?
Collin Gillespie’s future in Phoenix
Over the weekend, NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported that teams are “projecting” Gillespie, who is having a career season to get a contract “akin” to the one the three-year, $27 million Ty Jerome got from the Memphis Grizzlies the offseason. Jerome, like Gillespie was a two-way player who had a surprising season on a team that exceeded expectations while having a career season.
Would you be comfortable giving Gillespie a similar type of contract? Gillespie will be a free agent after the season and is set to get the largest payday of his career.
