Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau jumped into the dynamics of the transfer from Bayern Munich to PSV Eindhoven for Paul Wanner. Hau’s commentary shed some light as to why it was not working out between Wanner and Bayern Munich.
BFW has broken it down into excerpts. Below is Part 2.
Even at 19-years-old, Paul Wanner might not have been fully ready for the opportunity that was in front of him — potentially being part of the group that would replace Jamal Musiala for the upcoming months.
Physical, mental maturity needed
The technically
skilled left-footer has long been ready for the Bundesliga in terms of football. Physically and mentally, however, he’s far from it. Wanner has made important strides in these areas. Above all, he’s understood that patience, consistency, and caution are essential for his own development—and that too much hype surrounding him isn’t good for him at this stage in his life.
It also seems as if Wanner just was not feeling the environment at Bayern Munich for quite some time.
Wanner wanted out of “toxic” situation as early as 2022
What outsiders aren’t aware of in the current debate surrounding Wanner’s move to Eindhoven is that the personnel issue has been a complex, almost toxic political issue at FCB for many years. Since January 2022, shortly after his 16th birthday, to be precise.
Wanner made his Bundesliga debut following a wave of coronavirus infections among the professional team. It was an unexpected move by Nagelsmann, who, curiously enough, was still Bayern Munich’s coach at the time, as the player and his family were already planning to leave at that point.
According to research by Sky Sport, Wanner had reached an agreement with VfL Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga club, then coached by Florian Kohfeldt, had already offered him ample professional playing time in a calm and healthy environment for the second half of the season. When a member of the Wolves’ management contacted Hasan Salihamidzic to inform him of Wanner’s planned transfer, the then Bayern sporting director reportedly raged in the offices on Säbener Straße.
As it stands, Wanner likely needed to go and seems just about willing to do anything to exit Säbener Straße. The transfer to PSV Eindhoven seems like it was what was best for all parties.
Bayern Munich is sputtering toward the finish line of this transfer window, but at least games are starting…right?
