Bayern Munich’s Luis Díaz has had his ban in the UEFA Champions League reduced from three games to two.
The Colombian winger had originally been struck with a three-game ban after getting sent off for a dangerous
tackle on Paris Saint-Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi. The suspension subsequently ruled him out for Bayern’s next game against Arsenal.
The ban was originally going to stretch until Bayern’s seventh game of the league phase, which is a home game against Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. However, after a successful appeal from the club, UEFA reduced the ban by one game, which means Díaz will only have to miss one more game – the home game against Sporting CP this coming Tuesday.
Bayern have thus gotten the best possible outcome from this ban. Getting two games shaved off would have been little more than wishful thinking, as direct red cards usually result in a two-game suspension, if not more.
