Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other
day.
Look, when it comes to combat sports insanity, nothing I write about today is going to top 49-year-old Wanderlei Silva getting frigging colded by a man in a tuxedo after being disqualified for multiple fouls last weekend, so let’s all just live in that moment one more time and move on to something that might actually bring a smile to your faces instead.
(Big thanks as always to @Barrelelapierna for their weekly lists of the best KOs and submissions, and to @Grabaka_Hitman for uploading many of the clips you see here. Give them a follow and chip in on Patreon if you can.)
Super Purice vs. Tigu
I’m not going to pretend who these gentlemen are, what the background is for this fight, nor, most importantly, why they are fighting in jeans at a Real Xtreme Fighting 50 in Bucharest, Romania. What I can tell you is poor Tigu there got cracked real good by that Super Purice left hand and that Purice didn’t exactly celebrate his win in the classiest way.
With Purice all up in Tigu’s face, the referee was left with no choice but to get physical, so he grabbed on to Purice and went for a suplex to break up the action. Were it not for an illegal fence grab, Purice would have gone for a serious ride!
Still, nice work by the referee for assertively stopping whatever the hell that was. Excellent form on that throw.
Jacek Kujtkowski vs. Marcin Szoltysik
A debacle down at Babilon MMA 54 in Grudziadz, Poland, almost took the lead this week, but to be honest, I’m still not entirely sure what happened here.
See for yourself.
Yup, that’s a one-second tap-out. No contact, nothing, just a fighter deciding to literally end things before they’ve begun.
Matysek uploaded that clip and fortunately did some digging, though I’d take this translation with a grain of salt.
Allegedly, the losing fighter, Marcin Szoltysik felt his team was setting him up for a fall. Whatever his reason, his opponent Jacek Kujtkowski at least still got his show and win money, while Szoltysik won’t be back in the Babilon cage again anytime soon, according to Matysek.
Now I’m not saying Treston Vines should do the same thing at UFC 320 this weekend, but…
Yoo Chan Lee vs. Jun Seok Park
From Road FC 74 in Ansan, South Korea, here’s Yoo Chan Lee and Jun Seok Park slugging it out.
That’s what we like to see around here. Two fellas with near-zero experience (Lee was 1-0, Park made his pro debut) essentially saying “Who wants to live forever?” and just throwing. Mr. Park, it didn’t work out for you this time, but you’ve got a fan in me, buddy.
Romenigue Menezes vs. Matheus Correa
Oof, Romenigue Menezes absolutely destroyed Matheus Correa with a flying knee at a Centurion FC show and worse, he wouldn’t even let Correa fall. Just so much unnecessary damage.
Daniel Holt vs. Oscar Mendez
Alvi Dasuyev vs. Daniil Prikaza
Raul Sandoval vs. Brandon Miranda
In the land of UFC Fight Pass, we had a pair of truly brutal knockouts at LFA 218 in Tenerife, Spain, courtesy of Daniel Holt and Alvi Dasuyev.
Holt scored a beauty of a spin kick, catching Oscar Mendez going for a shot and leaving him turtled up on the canvas.
As for Dasuyev, he hit a sweet knee and a switch kick then seemingly jumped for joy as he launched himself at Daniil Prikaza with hammerfist extended.
It’s rare I get to describe a knockout as “giddy,” but that’s the word I’m going with here.
If you’ve never checked out Budo Sento Championship, I highly recommend it as the promotion touts a little bit of something for everyone.
In this instance, we’re looking at their kickboxing division, and a beautiful uppercut KO from Raul Sandoval.
Brandon Miranda ate all of that and justifiably decided, “Alright then, just going to have myself a lie-down here. Don’t mind me.”
