Good morning, baseball fans!
The World Baseball Classic finale took place earlier this week between the teams representing the United States and Venezuela.
The San Francisco Giants would have been winners either way, with players representing both countries. Ultimately, though, it was the Venezuelan team that came out on top. Which means that congratulations are in order for the Giants of the team, Luis Arráez and José Butto!
It was a wild game. The last I saw of it before passing out, Bryce Harper
had just hit a two-run home run for the United States in the eighth inning to tie the game. It seemed like they had the momentum going into a tied ninth inning.
But Arráez got things going for Venezuela in the ninth, getting a lead-off walk to set the stage for Eugenio Suárez, who brought Arráez’ pinch-runner home with a double to give Venezuela the go-ahead run that the United States couldn’t answer for in the bottom of the ninth.
It was, truly, an instant baseball classic. And we would like to give a hearty congratulations to the Venezuelan team, especially our own Giants players, Arráez and Butto! Great job!
