Kansas takes down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 77-46. The big news from the game is that Darryn Peterson didn’t play due to a hamstring issue. Bill Self doesn’t seem concerned about the long term but if this
turns into a lingering issue, it may be another long season.
Another bye week, so we’re starting off football links with a hot take from SI:
And it’s not like Leipold doesn’t have the finances, resources, or facilities to compete with the rest of the Big 12 at Kansas. So, if KU loses its final two games, don’t be surprised if KU moves on from Leipold.
Yes, you should be very surprised if KU moves on from Leipold even if the Jayhawks don’t win another game this season. However, posts like the linked one above are the embers that will have his seat much warmer than I expected as the 2026 season gets going.
Following up with another piece that wasn’t impressed with the coaching on Saturday:
Some peculiar play calling and questionable decision making by head coach Lance Leipold and his staff definitely played a role in KU’s loss today – as it has in other games this season.
Ok, one more from SI that is focused firmly on the coaching:
The Jayhawks were in the red zone and could have won it with a touchdown. But instead of trusting his best players to make a conversion on offense, Leipold thought it would be better to give the Wildcats offense three minutes to orchestrate a drive with only a touchdown needed to win.
Through the Phog reminds everyone to pump the breaks on the thoughts of replacing Leipold:
Even if KU falls short of a bowl bid, head coach Lance Leipold’s job shouldn’t be in jeopardy. Anyone out there calling for his job might as well be screaming into the wind. KU would have to pay him $22.9 million if they fired him without cause after the season. That is a lot of money.
Moving on to basketball, if Tiller can shoot the ball like he did on Friday the Jayhawks are going to be just fine this season.
Head coach Bill Self has dubbed Tiller the best post player on the team, but on Friday, he showcased what else he can do offensively with his onslaught from deep.
How about a power ranking of the Big 12 in basketball? It’s a bit early but tier 3 seems quite low based on what I saw Friday night.
And the power ranking version for football.

But the question of why is a little less relevant than the fact that it happened anyway—that, if the allegations are true, Clase had either been doing this since 2023 or had done it as early as 2023, and nobody knew until now.
