The Syracuse Orange (14-11, 5-7) hope to make it two wins in a row as they welcome the SMU Mustangs (17-7, 6-5) to the JMA Dome. Tune in tomorrow at 2:00 on The CW to see if the Orange can spread some Valentine’s Day love to the faithful fans….here’s what we’ll be watching for:
Kevin: Defend the 3
SMU is shooting 42% from 3 in ACC play. They have multiple perimeter threats and are going to test the Syracuse switches. Can the Orange close out on shooters and communicate on screens? Boopie Miller, Jaron
Pierre and BJ Edwards are all capable of carrying the offense, so there can’t be let downs on defense.
Dom: My guards versus yours
On one side, Naithan George and J.J. Starling have strung together a couple games where both are in double-figures and getting Syracuse at least something to go do on offense. But, SMU boasts its own pop at guard with Boopie Miller, Jaron Pierre Jr. and B.J. Edwards. They are the top-three scorers for the Mustangs, and they can do it from both inside and out. This is a game that will come down to who wins on the perimeter.
