Like it or not, amateur sports no longer exist in the way all of us knew them for most/all of our lifetimes. Arguing over right, wrong, or whatever is mostly pointless as things spiral toward “all that matters is money.” At this point, nothing is that surprising. We’ve seen basketball players who were drafted, signed, and played games for multiple professional teams, then returned to college.

Wednesday that involves Cleveland Browns TE Dae’Quan Wright.
The Browns added Wright to the roster a little over a week ago, adding the 2025 second-team All-SEC tight end to help in a room that has a lot of question marks after Harold Fannin Jr.
At the same time, Wright joined fellow Ole Miss starters Zxavian Harris and Wydett Williams, along with 30 other athletes, in a lawsuit against the NCAA. On Wednesday, a temporary restraining order was granted that would allow the players to return to college for one more season.
According to ESPN’s report, it seems Wright will now ask for his release from Cleveland so he can return to Ole Miss:
Those players have expressed an interest in being released from their NFL contracts, according to attorney Ryan Downton, and if their NFL teams release them by September 1 they will be allowed to join a college roster under the restraining order.
Wright has been absent from Berea for the last few days and had an uphill battle to make the Browns roster after not participating in the team’s first preseason game. Cleveland brought in two tight ends for workouts on Wednesday, one could take Wright’s place in the near future if the Ole Miss star is released.
