Manchester City take on Aston Villa at Villa Park with the prospect of going top of the Premier League a real possibility. The Blues are three points behind Arsenal and a decent win for the Blues, together
with a defeat for Arsenal, will see City top the table for the first time since the opening day of the season.
It’s a tall ask given the Gunners’ form and Pep Guardiola will no doubt be happy to take the three points after losing the last two matches at Villa Park.
A win for Villa will put them level on points with champions Liverpool and move them into seventh place, depending on the scoreline, and a heavy defeat for City would see the opposition move into sixth.
As usual, our team are here to give us their views and predictions on the match. Here’s what we think for today?
Saul
A good away match after a good midweek day. City will be ready and should take it even if Villa area tough out. 1-0 City.
Villa 0-1 City
Thomas
The Villains have won three Premier League matches on the bounce and City are unbeaten in their last 9 matches in all competitions. Several streaks on the line coming in, but the most important may be City’s string of failures at Villa Park. The Blues are winless in their past three trips to Birmingham. That surely will end at some point, so why not this time? Erling Haaland continues his torrid goal-scoring pace, and City comes home with all three points.
Villa 1-3 City
Will
City haven’t won at Villa Park in nearly four years. Time to end that streak.
Aston Villa 0-2 Manchester City
Pete
Tough match. We all know what Villa are capable of, but I’m optimistic and have a good feeling about this one.
Villa 1-3 City
What happened at Villareal
City got themselves another win in the Champions League to stay in the top half of the table. The media were all saying it was ‘City’s first away win in the Champions League in a year.‘ Well…um…yeah because we haven’t played in the Champions League since around March so duh!!!
Anyway, back to our team (sorry). Saul came very close to a perfect score and was one Spanish goal away from achieving it. Thomas went for 3-1 and picked up extra points, as did Pete…yes, he got something almost right. Will was one City goal away from a second perfect score of the season but the real story here is Pete picking up additional points for once.
Here’s the table:
