One-time UFC title contender Gilbert Burns will make his first appearance inside the UFC BJJ bowl on June 4 against Horlando Monteiro, the promotion announced. The match will serve as the co-main event of UFC BJJ 9 at the Meta APEX.
Burns announced his retirement from MMA earlier this month after losing by knockout to Mike Malott in Canada, leaving the sport on a five-fight losing skid and an overall UFC record of 15-10.
“Durinho” has a very successful career in jiu-jitsu before focusing fully in MMA,
winning the IBJJF world title in 2011 and defeating champions like Kron Gracie, Leandro Lo, and Celso Venicius.
UFC BJJ 9 will be topped by Mason Fowler, defending his light heavyweight belt against 2021 IBJJF no-gi world champion Devhonte Johnson. The line-up also includes the return of Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC champion Frank Mir, and Nicky Rod.
