Game notes
- The Bruins will play the second game of their California trip in Anaheim tonight, facing a young Ducks team that has won two of its last three games. This is the first of back-to-back games for the B’s, who will be in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
- The Ducks were one of the stories of the offseason, as it seemed like they were main characters in one saga after another. There was the Leo Carlsson offer sheet, the waiving of Chris Kreider, the contract standoff with Cutter Gautheir, a massive extension for Pavel Mintyukov, and similarly big (and surprising) extension for Tristan Luneau…the Ducks were all over the news this summer.
- Anaheim had an impressive start to the season, with OT wins over two Stanley Cup contenders in Vegas and Florida, before stumbling a bit in a 5-2 loss to Edmonton (who the Ducks eliminated in last year’s playoffs). They then won consecutive games against the Jets and Flames before losing to those same Flames last time out.
- If you’re planning to go to this game tonight, the Ducks are giving out free Wild Wing Popcorn Buckets prior to the game at their Modelo Puck Drop Patio. Between free 90s nostalgia and a Modelo patio, I’m sad to be missing it myself.
- Roger McQueen, Anaheim’s first-round pick in the 2025 draft, made his NHL debut on Tuesday night in Anaheim’s loss to Calgary. Yes, he wore #95. Kachow.
- McQueen’s recall was to provide the Ducks with an additional body after an injury to Ryan Poehling. Poehling suffered a sprained MCL against Calgary last week and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
- While the Ducks GA/GF per game figures are near the middle of the pack, they have excelled on special teams to start the season. Anaheim has the league’s second-best power play (33.3%) and fourth-best penalty kill (90.5%). Given the Bruins recent struggles with special teams, it would behoove them to play as much of this game at 5v5 as possible.
See
ya tonight!
