The Red Storm can kiss the number next to their name goodbye.
St. John’s went unranked in the latest AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll released on Monday following their 78-66 loss to Kentucky over the weekend
that dropped them to a record of 7-4. This is the first time St. John’s has been left out of the top 25 since the Week 11 poll on January 13, 2025.
The Johnnies opened the season as the fifth-ranked team in the country, but sank through the rankings after a disappointing performance in non-conference play. St. John’s is 0-3 against ranked teams and is 2-4 against power-conference opponents. Those two wins came against Baylor and Ole Miss, both ranked outside the top 40 in the NET.
UConn remains the only Big East team ranked, moving up one spot to No. 4 after wins over Butler and DePaul. Seton Hall came close to earning a ranking for the first time this season, accumulating 49 votes for the second-most among unranked teams. The Red Storm are two spots behind their rivals from New Jersey, with 23 votes.
If there’s any solace, St. John’s was in a similar situation last season. The Red Storm fell out of the rankings after losing two of three games in The Bahamas before Thanksgiving, then won 22 of their next 24 games to skyrocket to a peak of No. 6 in the rankings.
The now-unranked Red Storm begin their climb back up the rankings when they face the Harvard Crimson (6-6) on Tuesday, December 23. Tip-off from Carnesecca Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on FS1.
