Titans Twitter has been clamouring for Xavier Restrepo since the Tennessee Titans signed him as an undrafted free agent back in April. This might finally be the week that he gets his shot. The Titans are
desperately thin at wide receiver. Calvin Ridley is done for the year. Chimere Dike’s status is in question after a chest contusion knocked him out of Sunday’s loss to the Houston Texans. That leaves the Titans with just three healthy receivers currently on the 53-man roster – Elic Ayomanor, Van Jefferson, and Mason Kinsey.
That’s not exactly a murderers’ row right there. Restrepo was certainly productive in college. In his final season at Miami (with Cam Ward as the quarterback), he had 69 catches for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns. Both his yardage and touchdown totals led the ACC that season.
The Titans do have two other receivers, Hal Presley III and James Proche II, on the practice squad. It will be interesting to see if one of those guys gets the call over Restrepo. Proche is the only one of the three who has any NFL experience. He could be the one who gets the call.
Restrepo has been in the building for a long time now. This staff should know what he can and cannot do. If he doesn’t get the call this time, it tells me they don’t think he has much of a chance to be a receiver in this league. Quite honestly, if Restrepo can’t crack the lineup the Titans currently have, there is no reason for him to be on an NFL practice squad.
If it isn’t Restrepo who gets the call, be sure and log into Twitter. It will be a good time.
