Last night the Athletics were dominated by a Boston Red Sox team with a Cy Young candidate pitcher and the playoffs within reach. The team has a 3.5 game lead in the wild card race but is also only 3.0 games behind the American League (AL) East leading Toronto Blue Jays, positions no one expected heading into the trade deadline. After a disappointing road trip and the loss last night, the A’s have fallen back into last place in the AL West. But there’s a reason we play all 162 games, because you
never know what will happen between the lines.
Jeffrey Springs will get the call for the A’s tonight at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Springs is 10-10 on the 2025 season, his first with the A’s. He has a 4.13 ERA in twenty-seven starts (29 overall appearances) and 157 innings. He’ll go up against Connelly Early who will be making his MLB debut tonight for the Red Sox. The 23-year-old lefty has split his time this season with the Portland Sea Dogs and the Worcester Red Sox.
Early will go up against this lineup for the A’s:
