While the Borussia Dortmund men’s team has basically nothing left to play for this season, the opposite is the case for the women’s team. The BVB-Frauen are locked in a bitter fight with FC Köln II for promotion from the Regionalliga West into the 2. Bundesliga. While for most of the season BVB trailed Köln II, due mostly to a points deduction earlier in the season for an improper substitution, they have recently re-gained control over their own destiny after Köln II fell to Arminia Bielefeld 4-1
last weekend. While Dortmund are still behind three points, they have a game in hand and have a 20-goal lead in goal difference.
If Dortmund do manage to win the title, they will need to play the winners of the Regionalliga Südwest to win promotion to the 2. Bundesliga.
