brief word
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Tackle – I fear this may end up a little bit like the Rutgers game where Danny Collins’ defense is going to key on stopping Ryan Browne and the passing game, then get gashed by the Devin Mockobee on the ground. I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see them getting us moving laterally, like Rutgers did, and taking better angles to make the stop is important.
Find offensive balance– Purdue’s pass defense is not very good, so one would expect that Drake Lindsey and the passing offense should have a very good day. And that should play out. But Purdue also likes to throw the ball around, so finding some offensive balance by running the ball to control the clock, is going to be key.
Turnovers – Purdue does not yet have an interception, while leading the Big Ten in interceptions thrown. If this trend continues, I think the Gophers win this one comfortably.
OPPOSING PLAYERS TO WATCH
- #45 RB – Devin Mockobee – Two years ago, Mockobee ran for 153 yards and a touchdown in Huntington Bank Stadium.
- #91 DL – CJ Nunnally – An Akron transfer who is leading the Boilermakers with three sacks on the season.
PREDICTION
This is a great matchup for Minnesota. Lindsey and the Gopher receivers should have ample opportunity to rack up yards and make some big plays. I’m going into this game as confident as I’m going to be for any Big Ten game on the 2025 schedule.
Minnesota – 34
Purdue – 17
