On Wednesday, it was reported by various media outlets that the Miami Dolphins were signing 28 year-old defender Ronnie Harrison Jr. to their roster. Harrison — most recently of the Atlanta Falcons — has played both safety and linebacker during his eight seasons in the National Football League.
Harrison was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars following three seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide in college. After two seasons with the Jaguars, he was traded
to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick. He would spend three seasons with the Browns before signing with the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2023 season. It was in Indianapolis where the 6’3”, 214 lb defender would begin to play some linebacker — after previously playing safety exclusively. After two seasons with the Colts, Harrison spent 2025 with the Atlanta Falcons — starting four games at linebacker for the club.
It is unclear what position Harrison will play in Miami, however the Dolphins could use help at both safety and linebacker, so there’s a chance he will alternate between the two spots on defense at times in 2026.
During his eight seasons in the NFL, Harrison has amassed 274 combined tackles, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 27 passes defensed and 7 interceptions. The versatile defender has scored two defensive touchdowns — both on returned interceptions.
