This is a quick one, since it’s basically, “What do you think of X if applied to MLB?” It doesn’t wholly apply in any way, but I still thought it was interesting.
A few days ago, Nate Silver put forth a never-gonna-happen-but-still-fun-to-read “fix” for the NBA’s tanking problem, involving a new meta-currency and changing NBA’s draft model to an auction: https://www.natesilver.net/p/radical-plan-to-replace-the-nba-draft-lottery-arc-auction.
The ways in MLB and NBA need a “fix” are very different, but
MLB has also instituted a draft lottery, so they’re like, swimming somewhere in the same ocean, even if on different coasts, or whatever. Not everything here would work for MLB — you’d need some tie between meta-currency and signing bonus, for example. But, basically, I’d throw the link out here and see what y’all think.
