As if that loss to the Pistons couldn’t get any worse.
The Sixers returned to practice, and as is their tradition, had plenty of injuries to report, both new and old.
Kelly Oubre Jr. suffered an awkward
hyperextension of his left knee at the end of the first half in Detroit. The team has announced that he has suffered an LCL injury and will undergo further imaging. So far he has only been ruled out for the team’s upcoming contest against the LA Clippers. This appears to be the play where it happened.
If he has to miss any significant time that would be a huge blow. Not just because of how well he’s started the year offensively, but he’s been their most consistent perimeter defender as well.
The team also announced that Adem Bona has suffered a right ankle sprain, and he has been ruled out for at least the next three games. We don’t have a clip of what might have happened there, but Bona only played nine minutes in the lost to Detroit.
There was some positive, if not vague injury-related news. The team also said that both Joel Embiid and Paul George were full participants in practice. Their statuses for the Clippers game won’t be revealed until the team has to submit the injury report later Sunday evening. George’s ramp back up to play has felt like it’s taken ages, but that news does feel very positive on the Embiid front. Hopefully it was just a bout of soreness he needed a couple extra days to recover from.
