Bayern Munich kicked off its 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign with a 5-1 demolition of VfB Stuttgart, with goals from Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, an own goal from Josha Vagnoman, Luis Díaz, and Aleksandar Pavlović. Speaking after the game, Joshua Kimmich reviewed the match and what he thought of his team’s performance.
“It was a typical game against VfB, it was a close game until the last half an hour,” Kimmich recalled (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “Both teams play man-to-man, which is difficult
and very intense. I felt the first 25 minutes weren’t that good, but then we found our rhythm and deservedly won the game.”
The Bavarians had bright spots today like Alphonso Davies, Ismael Saibari, Kim Min-jae, and Kimmich himself, but other areas can still be improved because the Swabians did not back off throughout the match despite knowing getting a win away to Bayern is a pipe dream.
Bayern’s next game is an away trip to VfL Osnabrück in the DFB-Pokal, before visiting old foes Schalke next weekend.
