The NFL trade floodgates have opened, as the Indianapolis Colts traded All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most frequent names being discussed on the trade market, most notably for a wide receiver. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is also connecting them to a Super Bowl champion cornerback.
In a recent piece running through trade candidates, Fowler named Philadelphia Eagles
cornerback Riq Woolen as a name that could be on the move, and named the Steelers as a fit alongside the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.
“When I talk to rival teams about which players Philly might move, Woolen’s name comes up fairly often,” Fowler writes. “He’s a high-upside corner and 2027 free agent whose $1.26 million base salary could help facilitate a trade (much of his $12 million in guarantees came via signing or restructured bonuses).”
The Steelers are thin at cornerback after trading Joey Porter Jr to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of Week 4. Woolen helped the Seahawks win the Super Bowl last season. He has 12 career interceptions and has broken up six passes in 2026.
