We are over a week into Kansas City Chiefs
training camp, which has given the national media time to make stops in St. Joe to take in practice.Albert Breer, senior NFL reporter for Sports Illustrated, visited practices this week and shared insight in an article from earlier this week, emptying out his notebook with plenty about the team heading into the 2026 season.
One particular note about rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen, currently recovering from a bone bruise on his shin, stood out:

questions lingering are elsewhere in the skill group, particularly at receiver. Rashee Rice, coming off injury, needs to be more dependable—he’s still working his way back. Third-year man Xavier Worthy has had a really solid camp, and looks ready to take a step. And rookie Cyrus Allen, a fifth-rounder out of Cincinnati, might’ve been the best receiver in camp before bruising his shin; he’s expected back soon. The Chiefs see some similarities to Stefon Diggs in physical profile and play style in Allen, and he’s very much part of the offensive plan.
The stylistic comparison to veteran free agent Stefon Diggs is interesting, but it’s also noteworthy to me that Diggs is a former fifth-round pick (146th overall), just like Allen (176th overall).
With the talent Allen has flashed so far in camp, is it possible the Chiefs struck gold late in the draft with a Pro Bowl-level wideout? Diggs didn’t reach 1,000 single-season receiving yards until his fourth year in the NFL, but in the prime of his career, he ripped off four consecutive Pro Bowl seasons, including a 2020 campaign that featured him as the NFL leader in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535).
If the excitement for Allen wasn’t already boiling over, it’s overwhelming to consider Allen as the breakout Day 3 offensive playmaker of this year’s draft. Whether it was Diggs in 2015 or Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua a few years ago, these underrated pass catchers come around every once in a while, and signs are pointing to Allen being next in line.
