Germany came short once again in the World Cup this summer, extending the horrifying streak of 12 years now since Germany won their last World Cup knockout stage match. A far cry from the legendary footballing nation we have come to know in the past. Due to another failure, it looks increasingly likely that Julian Nagelsmann is on his way out, opening the door for a particular coaching legend, to be appointed.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Jürgen Klopp has an exit option
in his contract for the Germany job. As signed in 2024, Klopp’s agreement with Oliver Mintzlaff is still valid and allows Klopp to leave his current contract at any time should he decide to.
This is a major revelation in the DFB coaching situation and should Julian Nagelsmann either resign or be sacked, all signs point towards the appointment of the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss. It would certainly indicate a change of the guard for the national team, but Klopp seems like just the character to correct Germany’s downward trajectory.
Would appointing Klopp be enough to fix the DFB? Or is greater change needed? Let us know in the comments!
