With Sunday’s loss to a prior-to-Sunday one loss NDSU team, it’s understandable if you feel a bit deflated, and need a shot of confidence in the form of a victory over a usually tough mid-major before LSU comes to down and drinks Nashville dry.
By you, I mean me, of course. Well, anyway, as luck would have it, we play one of our toughest perennial mid-major foes tonight in The Hicks from French Lick.

…but wait, The Hicks are under .500 this year? Haven’t they been a team
that pushes for a top 25 spot and a #2 seed in the SEC Tourney recently?
Well, I might not get too cocky, as they’ve played some tough teams, opening the season with a Manhattan win and then losses to three top 25 teams—QAnoNC State, Wake Forest, and Ann of Coral Gables. On the flip side, they’ve also lost to Brown and most recently dropped 2 of 3 to Western Kentucky (one of the other usually tough mid-major programs we play annually). At least Indiana State presumably drinks their Manhattans with their mouths. Their gross Larry Bird be-moustached mouths, but their mouths, nevertheless.
Of course, we’ve given two horrid teams their 2nd win of the season this year, so who am I to talk?
In fact, both Vanderbilt and LSU are close to their nadirs right now, with LSU having a 1-3 week, as they just dropped a series to Sacramento State and lost last week’s mid-week game to ULL. I’d say it’s a good idea to track not just how The Diamond Dores fare against the Sycamores, but also how LSU does against Creighton tonight, as this weekend’s series might just get nuts.
