Chelsea were recently linked with World Cup breakout star Kerim Alajbegović, and were even said to be “the favorites” to win the race for the 18-year-old’s signature. Of course, such rumors can be a dime a dozen, but in this case, that is indeed looking likely at the moment, with the Blues “now in talks” with Bayer Leverkusen over a potential £34m transfer, according to The Telegraph.
When we first heard the rumors, the biggest question was probably about how the lanky winger might fit into our already
overcrowded first-team squad, but it sounds like he may not be joining the team right away even if we agree a deal. A loan back to Leverkusen, or some other team that would guarantee him development minutes, would indeed be a smart way to go about things.
Alajbegović scored thirteen goals in his first senior professional season last year for RB Salzburg in Austria, and he scored once in four games (three starts) for Bosnia & Herzegovina at the World Cup. The likes of Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Juventus have also been linked, but Chelsea surely have the power to swing this deal at will.
