Canelo Alvarez’s failed undisputed super middleweight title defense against Terence Crawford was intended to available to viewers far and wide when being streamed on Netflix, and expectations were at least fulfilled as the company announced that it brought in over 41 million viewers to the event in total. That number is significantly shy of Netflix’s last boxing event with Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson which did over 100 million viewers, but still by far the most watched championship fight in men’s boxing in recent
times.
Neflix adds that Canelo vs Crawford card topped out at more than 24 million concurrent streams while they estimate the main event to have had an average minute audience of over 36 million from opening to closing bell (including same day viewers) while being #1 on Netflix in 3o different countries. Needless to say, if Turki Alalshikh’s aim was to get far reaching exposure for his event he certainly accomplished that.
Terence Crawford would score a unanimous decision win over Canelo Alvarez over the weekend, allowing him to go undisputed in three different weight classes throughout his career — no minor feat. Both Canelo and Crawford are said to be taking some time off after their fight to weigh their decisions on their next respective moves.
