Well, at least it’s the other knee, that’s a positive right?
In a bit of surprising news, Joel Embiid will be out for Tuesday night’s home game against the Boston Celtics.
The team said the former MVP is
dealing with right knee soreness. Embiid is being evaluated by team doctors and further updates will be provided when appropriate.
This was certainly something that popped up at the last minute for Embiid. He was not listed on the initial injury report the day before, when the team ruled out Dominick Barlow, Paul George and Johni Broome. It’s important to note that he is dealing with soreness in his right knee, not the left, which he has had two operations on in the last two years.
The timing on this feels rotten — not that there’s ever a good time for Embiid to be dealing with knee issues. He had seemed to be feeling more comfort in his body and his play was evidence of that.
In his last four games, he averaged 23.5 points per game on 47.8% field goal shooting. His defense has started to come around in that time as well, averaging two blocks a game in that span. He was pushing the limits of his minutes restriction as well, playing slightly over 25 minutes in each of the last three games.
Hopefully this bout of soreness is just a blip on the radar, and he hardly misses enough time for anyone to remember it. No one will feel confident about his health status though until he’s able to string a few weeks of healthy basketball together.
