Bella Mir wants to have as much success as her father Frank, but not as much brain damage.
The up-and-coming MMA fighter, who failed to secure a UFC contract after getting outpointed by Alex Apodaca on Dana White’s “Contender Series” last month in Las Vegas, shed some light on her father’s declining health, which may not come as a surprise with a record sporting double-digit knockout losses in UFC and Bellator MMA.
Some worse than others.
“I didn’t know that until I watched someone on a video post on Instagram
and they were talking about [our similarities] and I was like, that is so weird,” Mir told The Ariel Helwani Show. “I hope that we don’t have the exact career all the way through because I want to fight for a long time and not have so much brain damage.”
Frank retired from MMA following his decision win over Roy Nelson at Bellator 231.
“He’s been in so many wars before, his brain is not good today,” Mir said. “I feel like it’s really been catching up to him and I’d like to try to get fast finishes and not have wars like that, like I just did in that last fight. Obviously, if I have to I will. I don’t know if I want to have 32 fights.”
Bella also revealed her father is often “needing a cane” from all the physical abuse.
If the 23-year-old “Lady” wants to avoid brain damage, she might want to considering a different career. No shade to the 4-1 Mir, but the entire point of MMA is to hurt someone until they are no longer able to continue, or at least keep the punishment going until judges decide who did the most damage.
Sorry, “it’s just part of the gig.”
