The Syracuse Orange started its game against the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in horrific fashion. The Fighting Irish scored three touchdowns before their offense took a snap. Notre Dame rode the momentum the rest of the way to a dominating 70-7 win over Syracuse.
Here are our three takeaways from a dreadful game for the Orange.
Someone Call Security
Has the Syracuse offense scored? No. But the Orange have at least kept the ball and prevented the opposing team from scoring in the first half. Syracuse has kept games
close in the first half since the first bye week. However, the Orange never had a chance because of the turnovers. One of the main reasons that Fran Brown made the switch to Joe Filardi was his ball security. However, two immediate pick sixes tossed by Filardi practically ended the game as soon as it began. It makes finding the positives from the game difficult.
The Dam Breaks
Even with the turnovers and early deficit, the Syracuse defense has generally been fantastic in the first half of games lately. However, that was not the case today. Jeremiyah Love immediately gashed the Orange defense to set the tone for the Fighting Irish on offense. For the first time since the SMU game, the Syracuse defense couldn’t impress enough in the first half to give some hope and life to the Orange faithful.
Loyalty
Kyle McCord and Steve Angeli had moments when they massively struggled. But Fran Brown remained confident and stuck with his quarterback. Rickie Collins struggled immensely through his first starts. But Brown remained loyal. However, Syracuse has started to juggle quarterbacks in confusing fashion. Brown has rotated quarterbacks a lot. Especially with Luke Carney, it feels wrong to keep changing the quarterback in and out and not give one quarterback some extended time and consistent time. It seemed like Brown burned Carney’s final game before his redshirt for not much reason.
