What is the story about?
Greetings, BBN!
The first week of 100% participation in conference action absolutely delivered on Saturday. With no byes and no non-conference games, the eighth week of the season whittled our unbeaten numbers down even more. Texas A&M and Alabama are the league’s last teams unbeaten in conference play, and the Aggies are the last team undefeated overall.
Vanderbilt beat LSU, Missouri beat Auburn in 2OT, Oklahoma won at South Carolina, Georgia rallied to edge Ole Miss, Texas A&M survived a scare from
Arkansas, Florida squeaked it out against Mississippi State, Texas walked off in OT at Kentucky, and Alabama rolled past Tennessee.
Let’s take a look at the standings heading into Week 9:

Notes:
- Georgia cannot make the SEC championship game if Texas A&M and Alabama both win out.
- Vanderbilt beat a Top 10 team when they beat LSU 31-24, but it wasn’t an upset. The Commodores were favored, and are now a Top 10 team themselves.
- Two games went to overtime, and both went to the road team. Missouri walked off at Auburn 23-17 in 2OT and Texas walked off at Kentucky 16-13.
- Ole Miss was on top of the standings since the second week, but now finds itself needing a lot of help to have a berth in the SEC championship game, since they do not play the teams above them and just lost to Georgia.
- Arkansas has lost its last two SEC games by a combined six points. They keep coming a lot closer than anyone expects.
- Ten SEC teams are in the AP Top 25 right now with records of 5-2 or better, and of the other six teams in the league, only Mississippi State has a winning overall record.
- Next week Ole Miss is at Oklahoma at noon, Missouri is at Vanderbilt at 3:30, and Texas A&M is at LSU at 7:30 for ranked-vs-ranked action all day long in the Southeast.
