Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is closing in on a tantalizing mark, one held by club legend and former CEO Oliver Kahn — 557 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Neuer would not be able to surpass that number this season — but if he stays healthy, he would get close and another year should do it comfortably. That adds some context to the Neuer contract extension watch, but the man himself is not really thinking about it.
“I don’t base my career around breaking records and instead live in the here
and now with the aim of being as successful as possible with the team,” Neuer explained in a Bundesliga.com interview, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “For me, it’s not about playing more games than somebody else. Oliver Kahn is an absolute legend who went his own way and had an outstanding career. I will just concentrate on myself, on my health, and my game for as long as I still enjoy it.”
