Augsburg was the site of a German failure on Sunday, September 27th, as Germany fell to their first-ever loss to Greece in their UEFA Nations League encounter. It was also Klopp’s first-ever game as Germany manager on German soil, which left fans desperately disappointed with their first in-person view of the team.
Perhaps the frustrating result dampened Klopp’s happy previous memories of Augsburg. Given his 14 years as a manager in Germany at both FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, the German was
asked about his memories of Augsburg, but he drew on his memories as boss of Liverpool FC instead.
“We played there with Liverpool. I was a bit of an insider when we played against Bayern in Munich in the Champions League, the Liverpool player wives stayed in Augsburg,” Klopp said with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Also, my cousin owns a pharmacy in Augsburg.”
What a riveting backstory, eh?
