Oregon men and women each finish sixth against top fields
Oregon cross country split squads for the weekend, with the men running at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and the women racing at the Gans
Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri. Both teams came away with sixth-place finishes against loaded fields.
At Gans Creek, junior Juliet Cherubet shined in her Oregon debut, charging from outside the top 10 to finish fifth overall in 19:20.3 over the 6K course. She was followed by Dalia Frias, who made her return to competition in 27th place, and sophomore Ella Thorsett in 36th. Anika Thompson and Ali Ince completed the Ducks’ scoring five. Friday marked a valuable preview of the course that will host this fall’s NCAA Championships.
On the men’s side, sophomore Tayson Echohawk paced the Ducks in Stillwater with a 16th-place finish in 24:12.1, improving on his time from last year’s Jamboree by nearly 20 seconds. He was joined in the top 30 by Sergio Del Barrio and freshman Anthony Fast Horse, who crossed together in 28th and 29th. Jeffery Rogers and Jack Meier rounded out Oregon’s scoring five to secure the sixth-place team result.
